Pair 18th Century Chippendale Hand Chairs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Carse Antiques

FINE pair of mid 18th century THOMAS CHIPPENDALE style red walnut hand chairs. Wonderful large size hand or side chairs of a great shape. Exquisitely carved front cabriole legs with scroll carved toes. Shaped back legs with stepped foot. Nice shape top rail to the backs with shaped and fretted out back splats. Drop in seats with 19th century needlework covers. The chairs are basically in very good order, there are a couple of added blocks underneath one of them and a couple of very minor shakes to the wood in places. Both chairs have been re-polished in the 19th century so there isn't any great patination to them which is a bit of a shame but still an important pair of early chairs. The front legs are superb.
