Description:
Here is a rare and stunning quality stunning example of an antique pair of French Louis XV style carved walnut armchairs, which have been newly upholstered, circa 1860, from the 2nd Empire period, in excellent condition. The armchairs are constructed of solid walnut and feature stunning quality carved floral cartouches, acanthus leaves and floral frames, which terminate on cabriole legs all round and incorporate the original small brass and ceramic castors to the front legs.
The armchairs feature scroll arms; shield backs, shaped sides and a serpentine front. The back rails feature stunning floral carvings to the centre of the pediment and the frames are carved with acanthus leaves. The base of the chairs is firmly sprung so that you do not sink into the seats but at the same time they are extremely comfortable sit on. The undersides are upholstered with the original webbing.
Condition Report:
This pair of armchairs is in good condition. They have been newly upholstered in top quality luxurious silk & cotton brocade upholstery; therefore the upholstery is in excellent condition (it’s clean and no signs of wear or tear and damage). The seats are firmly strung but are also extremely comfortable to sit on. The undersides are upholstered with the original webbing. The front legs feature the original castors (please note, the back legs were not designed to have castors). The carved frames and arms are also in excellent condition with no loose joints, and no missing carvings to the frames. The armchairs are solid in joint overall and are ready to use.
