Description:
Here is an example of a superb set of 10 antique French Louis XV style carved oak rush seated ladder back dining chairs of the 3rd Republic period, circa 1910, in very good condition. The set comprises of 10 side chairs from a true set (they have not been matched together from smaller sets). Featuring a shaped top rail with a floral carved motif and two further shaped rails below, in the form of a ladder back design within the shaped upright supports; the chairs feature “drop-in” rush seats, all of which are in good condition. The shaped seat frame incorporates a floral carved motif apron. The seats are raised on fine cabriole legs to the front (which terminate on curled toecaps), with straight legs to the rear, all of which are united by elegantly turned stretchers for added strength and stability. The chairs are heavy in weight, which is a good sign of fine quality and it means they are sturdy.

The chairs are in very good condition. The set comprises of 10 side chairs from a true set (they have not been matched together from smaller sets). Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chairs benefit from good quality rush seats, all of which are in good condition. The chairs are heavy, which is a good sign of good quality and ensures they are sturdy. The chairs boast the original polish, which ensures a fantastic patination and warm colour to the oak. All chairs are solid in joint, they do not wobble and are ready to use.
