Superb Georgian Style Painted Chair

A really beautiful painted chair. The chair is painted in green as a base colour and has then been elaborately painted with neoclassical motifs including swags of flowers, acanthus leaves, and a medallion with classical statue. The ability of the painting and the manufacture of the chair itself, which is in mahogany, show that the chair is of the best quality and must have been by one of the finest makers of the late Victorian period. The chair is structurally in excellent condition and retains the original cane seat also in excellent condition. The paintwork is in good condition but as one would expect there are losses and chips particularly where you would expect on the parts of the chair that gets most use, legs etc the effect is to give the chair the wonderful look of age and that true country house style. C.1890.
