Pair of Nineteenth Century Oak Armchairs

A very stylish and decorative but also useable pair of French oak armchairs. The pair are of very sturdy construction in solid oak. The two are both profusely carved and turned to a high standard and the whole design is very much in the manner of Louis XIV. The pair have different but complimentary upholstery and I think although they are different both may be original. One chair is covered in a dark green velvet beautifully worn in all the right places, the other is covered in a wool needlework of foliage. The colour of the velvet is picked out in the needlework foliage thus they compliment each other very well and woould work happily in the same room. The chairs are both in excellent condition with original colour and patina. C.1880.
