Description:

Here is a stunning quality antique English Victorian mahogany revolving office armchair, circa 1860, in excellent condition. The chair displays an elegantly curved and arched bar back, which trails down and is secured by down swept arms. The chair seat features its original cane work seat, which is in excellent original condition. The chair design is quite unique with the shaped back above one central pierced splat (in the shape of a reverse heart shape) and two smaller matching splats either side, situated at the base of the arms. The chair revolves 360 degrees (please note, these early desk chairs were not designed to be height adjustable or tilt). The seat is connected via the revolving mechanism to the four sturdy splayed legs below, which terminates on brown mug castors. The chair is very comfortable to sit on and it has a fantastic colour and is in excellent condition.

Condition Report:

The chair and mechanism are in original working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chair frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair frame has been cleaned and polished in our workshop. The chair retains its original cane work seat, which, being clean and free of damage is in excellent condition. The revolving mechanism is in good working order, having been cleaned and serviced. There is some play to the mechanism, but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of the chair, and will be found in all office chairs of this age. The chair stands on its original legs and features brass and brown mug castors, which are in good condition. The chair is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
