Superb quality late C19th carved mahogany framed armchair in the Adam revival style.

Exceptionally high quality copy of an important late C18th Robert Adam design carved mahogany armchair of broad proportions. The concave shield-shaped back heavily and skilfully carved with open splat and carved neo-classical details and motifs , swags , leaves and fluting . The shaped swept arms with carved leaf terminals and wheatsheaf detail . The frame of the seat with carved fluted detail and the whole raised on tapering carved and reeded legs. The tops of the legs with carved blocks with sun-flower head paterae .

In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs. Has been recently re-covered in a quality fabric with piped-edge detail .

Has achieved a rich period style patina and colour .

An elegant mahogany armchair of bold proportion and scale.
