Fine Pair Of Nineteenth Century Rosewood Chairs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A pair of hugely decorative and very interesting chairs. The chairs are most likely Indo-Portugeuse but are definately a variation of colonial furniture. The wood is exceptionally heavy and is most likely a type of rosewood, like padouk, this is often the case with colonial furniture. The carving to the crest rail and the apron is also quite colonial looking. The design has the look of early Portugeuse or English chairs from the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, although I do think these chairs are nineteenth century.

The chairs are in great condition with a good faded colour and patina, the caning is good and strong. The pair make a great decorative statement and are very imposing, with a wonderful country house look. C.1850.
