Pair of 19th Century Rockley Windsor Side Chairs

19th century
Description

A lovely pair of elm and ash Windsor side chairs with typically decorated central spat and crinoline stretchers. This pair of chairs are in sturdy condition with a superb colour and patina. There is some historic minor wood worm damage to the back of one chair and the underside seat of the other, this has been treated for peace of mind and does not detract from the beauty of these antiques chairs.

Both chairs are stamped with the maker's name 'F. Walker,Rockley'. Rockley was a small hamlet that was constructed around 1822, and was home to a number of small chair makers, the main one of these was William Wheatland. Frederick Walker was one of Wheatlands first employees and eventually took over the business.

A wonderful addition to any interior.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
