The only other 'Joan's Chair' by Ambrose Heal is in the Victoria & Albert museum. Made as a special order for a child called Joan, this antique oak Heals throne type armchair, on removing the old upholstered back panel, exposed original pencil drawings which mark out the plan for the inlay design which incorporates the names of the family.
On the back clearly shows where a childs head and shoulders should be agianst the back panel. Made in solid, quarter sawn oak and in the original finish, we have chosen not to upholster the back panel so you can see the original pencil design. However, a panel could be applied maybe with velcro strips, so you can still access the drawings. In excellent condition. The link to the V&A's Ambrose Heal oak chair is here:
