Description

Early/mid 19th century Harlequin set of ten ash & elm spindle back chairs of superb patina, possibly from Shropshire or Staffordshire area.

This Harlequin set of chairs are all of similar proportion and shape, all of the same period, all of similar construction but have some slight differences: some chairs have three spindles, some four etc but generally are all a good match.

The chairs consist of a turned top rail between two supports, some with a turned finial to the top leading down to two further turned cross rails connected by the three or four spindles to form the back of the chair.

Each chair has a elm seat with a shaped frieze rail at the front leading down to the front legs, these being turned & tapered, leading down to a pad foot other than two chairs that have a turned foot.

There is also a turned, front stretcher & two plain side stretchers with a plain turned stretcher to the back.

These chairs are in very good condition for age, are of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
