A Charming Japanese Ivory, Shibayama Lacquered Fish Kodansu

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this charming little Japanese ivory Kodansu (miniature cabinet), the ivory panelled doors open to conceal a set of drawers and an interior that has been decorated in Lacquer to depicts Birds amidst Flora, without doubt the exterior of this little cabinet is the stand out feature, each panel has been decorated in high quality, multi coloured Lacquered Fish and Sea Shells, these include Flatfish , Fugu (puffer fish), Squid and even a Flying Fish ! , a wonderful little piece of art , the artist has simply decorated the Kodansu in what he sees and eats every day as part of his staple diet , always a very popular subject , the little cabinet is jointed and held together with Silver plated mounts, a real joy !!

The condition is lovely with minor age lines and age related cleaning wear .
