Description

A very fine example of an 18th century giltwood wall-hanging mirror. The beautiful old glass plate is retained by an elaborate pierced frame of carved wood – not moulded plaster – comprised of a ropetwist border surrounded by flamboyant deeply carved acanthus leaves and corner motifs. The stunning finish is the original water gilding with a soft glowing lustre shine. It can be hung in portrait or landscape orientation. This top quality mirror is almost certainly Italian and it dates from c.1750 – c.1800.
