Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian oak revolving office armchair, circa 1890, in good working condition.

This item was originally supplied by Alfred Allen Furnishing Expert of Hill St. and John Bright St. of Birmingham – their company label is visible on the back of the chair. The chair features a curved shaped bar back, with scroll ears connected to wrap around down swept arms. A bank of vertical turned bulbous spindles connect the shaped bar back and arms to the oak seat frame. The chair has a full grain dark green leather seat, finished with brass studs, which is extremely comfortable. The chair sits on four splayed oak legs that terminate on its original brass castors. The chair rotates 360 degrees; the seat height can be adjusted by turning a ribbed metal screw on the underside of the chair. The tension of the reclining action can be adjusted by turning the large screw and the chair can be raised or lowered on the central steel thread. The chair mechanism has been cleaned and serviced and is in good working order. The chair also features a reclining action.

Provenance:

Alfred Allen Furnishing Expert of Hill St. and John Bright St. Birmingham were furniture suppliers who specialised in the retail of quality utilitarian home and office furniture in Birmingham, England during the early part of the 20th century.

Condition Report:

The chair and its mechanism are in good working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair mechanism has been cleaned and serviced and is in good condition; there is some play to the mechanism but nothing significant considering the age of this item. The tension of the reclining action can be adjusted by turning the large screw and the chair can be raised or lowered on the central steel thread. The chair has a full grain top quality dark green leather seat, which features the traditional webbing to the underside. The chair features its original brass castors, which are also in good condition. Importantly, there are no breaks to the back, arms or legs. The chair has a fantastic golden oak colour and patination. This item is well constructed, is solid in joint and ready to use.
