George III Mahogany and Inlaid Tea Caddy with Lids

18th century
Description

Good George III mahogany tea caddy of a pleasant shape. The top with ebony and boxwood stringing and a rosewood cross banding to the top panel. The front with ebony and boxwood stringing with both rosewood and satinwood cross banding. The ends with boxwood and ebony stringing and satinwood cross banding.

The caddy stands on its original turned oak feet although I think they were probably ebonised originally. The inside of the box has its original lids with ebony stringing to the main part and boxwood stringing round the edge. The lids have their original ivory knobs, the front of the box has the original ivory diamond shape escution.

A couple of very minor bits of missing stringing that could be repaired if required otherwise this box is pretty good condition.
