An Exhibition Quality Georgian Regency Mahogany Marquetry Inlaid Adjustable Cheval Dressing Room Looking Glass Mirror. C.1800.

Description

A superb Exhibition quality Regency Sheraton/Hepplewhite design marquetry inlaid mahogany cheval mirror. This fully adjustable dressing room tall mirror has a weighted mechanism which allows the mirror to be raised, lowered and tilted- this is a rare and desirable feature which occurs only in the top 1% of cheval mirrors . Most mirrors simply tilt on two locating pins which are often a weak spot.This is twice the weight of an Edwardian copy and is made from the best quality dense mahogany from The South Americas. The top is surmounted by a swan neck pediment flanked by urn finials. The whole is raised on shaped inverted sabre legs. The whole is profusely inlaid with trailing wheathusks and full and quarter boxwood fans. The mirror plate is the original as are the brass swivel castors. This piece of furniture has been fully restored so all the joints are secure, the raising mechanism overhauled by qualified professional restorers.

Excellent condition. Circa 1800. Measures 67-75”h x 28”w x 27”d.
