They boast a lovely golden oak colour; it is impossible to re-create this colour if the chairs have been re-polished. The chairs have drop in seats, which have been newly upholstered in top quality hard wearing taupe shade wool & cotton upholstery. The set of chairs consist of 6 side chairs and 2 armchairs. The shaped ladder-backs are typical of French provincial chairs. The top rail of the ladder-back features elegant floral carvings. This floral carving is repeated as a cartouche on the front rails of serpentine chair frame, below the seat. The front legs feature a pretty cabriole design and terminate on scroll toes. Underneath, the chairs are connected with four ring turned stretchers to ensure they are sturdy. The backs of the legs are shaped which is a sign of good quality. The chairs are very comfortable, solid in joint and would look good in either a traditional or contemporary setting.
The chairs feature a rich golden oak colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through the years of care and cleaning they have received. This truly is a very beautiful set of chairs with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
Condition Report:
This set of matched chairs is in very good condition. The chairs retains their original polish; which is why they boast such a lovely golden oak colour and patination; it is impossible to re-create this colour if the chairs have been re-polished. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and minor colour variation but nothing significant considering the age of the chairs. The drop-in seats have been freshly re-upholstered in taupe shade wool & cotton upholstery. The upholstery is therefore clean, free from wear and marks. The seat frames and chair joints are also solid. There are no breaks to the backs, frames or legs of any of the chairs. All chairs are solid in joint, stand level and are ready to be used.
