Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this superb little Japanese miniature cabinet (Kodansu), the main body is formed from solid silver designed as a bamboo frame inset with heavily embossed floral panels , the four sides and top panel have been inset with fine quality gold lacquer Shibayama style panels depicting birds such as cockerels , grouse and a hawk amongst foliage , the Shibayama detailing is made up of semi precious stones and shells , the front door opens to reveal three graduated drawers finished in gold lacquer with silver handles, the inner door has also been lacquered in great detail, the interior is almost as fresh as the day it was made, the top panel houses a silver carrying handle and the underside is signed in a delightful mother of pearl cartouche , an absolute jewel !!

The little cabinet is in remarkable original condition with only minimal expected cleaning wear, we note that unusually the shibayama contains no ivory and means that this cabinet can be legally transported to countries that have an ivory ban in place.
