This is a superb quality late Victorian carved mahogany elbow armchair, in the style of the style of the Chippendale period having freshly upholstered, circa 1890.

This is a superb quality late Victorian carved mahogany elbow chair, in the style of the Chippendale period having been freshly upholstered, circa 1890. This chair would be ideal for use in the office, hallway or dining room. The chair features a shaped top rail with a carved central pediment flanked by blind fretwork acanthus leaf scroll carvings to the ears. Below, sits a refined pierced central splat flanked by elegant moulding to the outer upright supports of the chair frame. The frame is connected to a pair of sturdy shaped arms. The chair features a stuff-over sprung seat, which has been newly upholstered in a top quality heavy silk chenille damask material. The chair stands on elegant vertical square form legs; with straight legs (incorporating a fine chamfer moulding) to the front and splayed legs to the rear. The legs are united with the classic “H” stretcher design, to ensure the chair is sturdy.

External Height = 98.3cm or 38¾” or 3ft 2¾”

External Width = 59.5cm or 23” or 1ft 11”

External Depth = 56cm or 22” or 1ft 10”

Seat Height = 49.5cm or 19½” or 1ft 7½”

Seat Width = 50.2cm or 19¾” or 1ft 7¾”

Seat Depth = 45.3cm or 17” or 1ft 5”

Arm height = 74.5cm or 29” or 2ft 5”

Back Height = 50cm or 19” or 1ft 7”

Condition Report:

This chair is in excellent condition, with nominal old use marks to the leading edges. The seat has been freshly upholstered in a top quality hard in a top quality heavy silk chenille damask upholstery. Therefore, the upholstery is in excellent clean condition. The sprung seat is firm but extremely comfortable. As the chair retains its original polish, it ensures there is an excellent colour and patination to the timber. This colour can only be found in furniture with its original polish. The chair, including the arms, is solid in joint (not loose or wobbly) and is ready to use.
