Description

Retford area low back Windsor armchair. Yew with elm seat. Similar example illustrated in "The English Regional Chair" by Bernard Cotton (see page 114, Whitworth of Gamston, maker). Gamston is a village 3 miles from Retford and is linked to the Retford tradition of chairmaking. Old split in seat, repaired and solid. Good colour.
