A Large Giltwood Mirror of Exceptional Quality

A truly spectacular 18th century gilt framed Florentine mirror. The frame – made of gilded carved wood, not moulded plaster – is comprised of exquisitely fashioned architectural scrolls, leaves, bunches of grapes, and acanthus scrolls, all surmounted by an elaborate symmetrical central cresting. The untouched finish to the gilding exudes the air of a grand country house and has a rich colour and patina. The frame retains an absolutely superb mercury glass plate with an exceptionally attractive glistening, sparkly glow. This beautiful example can be used as a general purpose wall mirror or as a magnificent overmantel. It dates from c.1750 – c.1800.
