This is a stunning quality antique Victorian oak and leather revolving captains’ office armchair, circa 1860, in excellent condition. The armchair has been newly upholstered in a stunning quality green distressed leather. The leather upholstery is finished with brass studwork around the perimeter. The seat, which is stuffed with its original horsehair, is extremely comfortable. The seat is connected to the wraparound leather arms by a central floral open splat and carved scroll supports either side. The wraparound leather arms make the chair very comfortable to lean back against. The seat is connected to the base by four sturdy umbrella shaped legs, which terminate on solid brass castors. Office chairs of the Victorian period were designed revolve 360 degrees but not tilt or be height adjustable.
As the chair boasts its original polish, the chair boasts a rich colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The chair is very comfortable, has a fantastic colour and is in very good condition.
Condition Report:
This office chair is in excellent condition. The arms, frame and seat are completely solid and show no signs of movement. The chair has been newly upholstered in top quality distressed green leather. The upholstery is in excellent condition; there are no rips or damage to the fabric. The seat upholstery is clean and is free from wear, tears and dirt. The seat is fixed at a standard height and revolves 360 degrees. There are no breaks to the arms or legs. The chair sits on replacement solid brass castors. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
