This set of chairs has been freshly upholstered in a top quality ornate heavy hardwearing silk damask upholstery secured with metal studded braiding; this would have reflected the original style of upholstery used during this period. The chairs feature arched padded high-backs for extra comfort. The seats are well padded and are extremely comfortable to sit on. To the underside of the seats, the chairs feature the original barley twist and block “H” stretchers. The undersides of the chair feature traditional hessian upholstery. This is an original full and true set of chairs. They have not been matched together from smaller sets of chairs (which you see in some large sets of chairs for sale).
This set of chairs was constructed in the style of the Carolean period (also know as the Restoration period), in which Charles II returned to the English throne (reigned 1660–1685). The return of the king and his court from exile on the Continent led to the replacement of the Puritan severity of the Cromwellian style with a taste for magnificence and opulence and to the introduction of Dutch and French artistic influences. These are evident in furniture in the use of barley twisted turned supports and legs.

Condition Report:
These chairs are in excellent condition. This is an original full and true set of chairs. They have not been matched together from smaller sets of chairs (which you see in some large sets of chairs for sale). The chairs have just been professionally upholstered in a top quality fabric; therefore there are no tears, rips, marks or fading to the upholstery. Importantly, there are no breaks to the backs of the chairs. The frames of the chairs are sold and in excellent condition with no splits or lose movements. The chairs sit firm on the ground, do not wobble and ready to use.
