A Generously Proportioned Windsor Armchair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Waterfall Antiques

A very fine example of a large 19th century lathe-back chair in elm, ash, and beech. This well proportioned gentleman''s chair – not to be confused with lesser quality smaller versions – is sometimes referred to as a grandfather chair. It has an accommodating dished elm seat supported by well turned legs united by a double H-stretcher. The scrolling arms are supported by smaller turned uprights and the chair''s elegant lathe-back is surmounted by a gently bowed bar back. This handsome high quality Victorian Windsor chair is English, and it dates from c.1880s.
