A Superb Quality Overmantel Mirror

Description

An extremely fine example of a mid-19th century gilt-framed overmantel of the most pleasing squarish proportions. The frame has a plain sight edge, a twist mould, then an ogee moulding adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves and other foliage. The mirror plate itself is the original mercury glass; it is in excellent condition with a beautiful glistening effect and a warm reflection. The gilding to the frame is original and has a soft glowing finish and an attractive lustre shine. Its eight-panel backing board is also original. This stunning early Victorian overmantel mirror dates from c.1850s.
