A Charles II Walnut Armchair

Description

A Charles II walnut armchair. Country made with block and spiral uprights and stretchers. Frieze and top rail carved with rosettes and foliate designs. The faded swept arms terminating in acanthus leaves . The chair is solid, woodworm free and very useable. There have been no breaks to the spiral uprights.I believe this chair to be English rather than Flemish because of the design of the carving but I am not a specialist in this period.

This chair would have originally had a caned back panel and seat which ,some years ago, has been replaced with upholstery making it much more comfortable ! The old canework holes remain on the underside of the seat. There have been some repairs noteably a blacksmith made strap to the top of the back rail and a similar repair to one stretcher. The button pads to the base of the legs are wrong but have been left in place as have the blocks supports to the feet.

The back stands 112 cms high

The seat is 44 cms from the ground

The arms are 60 cms wide.
