Large Overmantle Mirror by Lamb of Manchester C.1880.

Description

Impressive large late 19th.c English overmantle mirror c.1880 by the great Manchester makers and retailers J.Lamb, probably the finest Northern cabinet makers of the Victorian era. Elaborate moulded gesso frame with an unusual frieze at the top featuring foliate detail around a central cameo of the Roman goddess Diana depicted with bow and hunting hound. Good condition with some minor damage to the gesso typical of age. Original mirror plate and back board stamped 'J.Lamb. John Doulton Street Manchester'.

Dimensions: width 58½", depth 3", height 68".
