C19th Mid-victorian Period Oak-framed Library Armchair.

Description

C19th mid Victorian period oak-framed library armchair. Powerfully-designed 'horse-shoe'-back library chair , with original 'leather-cloth' upholstery . Lion-mask terminal arms above lion's paw supports, raised on shaped legs with satyr-mask carved knees and lion's paw claw and hairy feet and concealed castors . The wide back-splat carved with vine-leaf and grape decoration and a central cartouche . The timber has achieved a wonderful rich patina , whilst the pleated and buttoned oil-cloth leatherette upholstered covering has a glowing waxed surface. Minor wear to upholstery , but overall excellent original condition. Good strong frame, no breaks or repairs.
