The Cromwellian style is distinguishable by the medieval “square” design of the seats and backs of the chairs. The set consists of two armchairs and 8 side chairs. The chairs are constructed from solid oak and feature comfortable padded backs. This set of chairs has been freshly upholstered in a top quality medieval style heavy silk hardwearing damask upholstery secured with brass-studded braiding; this would have reflected the original style of upholstery used during this period. The set of chairs features square padded backs, which are brass studded around the perimeter frame. The seats are firm but very comfortable; they also features deep seat which also makes the chairs even more comfortable to sit on. The two armchairs feature very pretty down swept acanthus leaf carvings to the armchairs. To the underside of the seats, the chairs feature the original carved barley twist “H” stretchers. The undersides of the chair feature traditional hessian upholstery. The seats are firm so that you do not sink into the seats but at the same time is extremely comfortable.
The chair features a rich deep oak colour. This item has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

These chairs are in excellent condition. The chairs have just been professionally upholstered in a top quality fabric; therefore there are no tears, rips, marks or fading to the upholstery. There is no damage to the frame or breaks to the legs or backs. The frames and arms of the armchairs are sold and in excellent condition with no splits or lose movements. The chairs sit firm on the ground and do not wobble. These chairs are solid in joint and ready to use.
