The chair and mechanism is in excellent original condition. The brass castors are later replacements (these are in excellent condition). Importantly, there are no breaks to the legs, backs or arms. Importantly, the reclining mechanism and adjustable height mechanism is also in excellent working order. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Free of woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.

Provenance:
The chair is marked "Coles Brothers Ltd, Upholsterers, Sheffield". Still known to many of its customers as Cole Brothers, this Sheffield landmark has a proud heritage, dating back to 1847. In 1919 the business was sold to H. Gordon Selfridge, the American entrepreneur, who some ten years earlier had opened the successful department store in London`s Oxford Street, and Cole Brothers became part of the growing Selfridge Provincial Stores Group.
