Description

A beautiful example of a large mid-19th century margin mirror which can serve as a general purpose wall mirror or as an impressive overmantel. The rectangular outer frame with its outset corners and egg & dart border is surmounted by a stunning cartouche cresting flanked by swags of harebells. The central bevelled oval plate is the original mercury glass with a soft, warm reflection. There is a further decorative embellishment at low level consisting of a central ribbon motif flanked by leaf sprays. This magnificent mirror, French, c.1850s, retains its original rubbed gilding with its cream base beneath.
