There are no rips, tears or holes. These large heavy weight armchairs are extremely comfortable & they are sprung not only on the seat, but also all over the backs. The legs sit on a mahogany framework & the leather is hand tacked on to the frames. They are particularly wide & generously proportioned, which is hard to appreciate from the images. I would date them to around the 1910 period, but they may be older than that.
