Fine Quality, Set of Six, Balloon Back Antique Chairs in Walnut

This set of six antique dining chairs are constructed from a fine quality walnut, circa 1870, and are stamped 'J.R.S PATENT'. They have moulded balloon backs, with finely carved central back splats, that sit above recently upholstered seats. The attractive serpentine shaped fronts of the seats look well with the splayed back legs and elegantly carved front legs. The walnut is a rich warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
