This is an excellent example of a very good quality antique George III carved mahogany corner armchair, circa 1780. Constructed from fine grade Georgian timber, it the chair features a bowed top rail, which flows into two-scroll end floral, carved arms. Three “gun-barrel” supporting spindles support the arms. There are two finely carved open fretwork-supporting splats either side of the spindles. The drop in seat has been newly upholstered in a high quality upholstered gold embossed floral draylon material. Below the seat frame are several intricately carved open floral fretwork corn supports. The chair stands on classic straight legs, which are connected by a reeded cross stretcher for added support.

The chair features a rich deep mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:

The chair is excellent original condition. Importantly, there are no breaks to the back rails, fretwork splats or legs. Nominal old use marks to the wooden frame of the chair but nothing significant considering its age. The chair seat has been newly upholstered in a gold embossed floral draylon so the condition of the seat is excellent. The back, arms, frame and legs are solid in joint and stand the chair does not wobble when standing on the ground. The chair retains its original polish therefore it boasts a fantastic patination. The chair is free of woodworm.
