Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1850s.
They have carved moulded backs with a central scrolled curbed back splat. The back legs are splayed while the front legs are delightfully turned in a tapering octagonal style and have a moulded front edge spanning the width of the seat. They look to have been recently reupholstered in a period style fabric which is in very good condition although could easily be replaced if so desired since the seat pads are of the 'drop in' design. The mahogany is a rich medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
