Pair of Carved Walnut Gothic Chairs

Description

Circa 1880, very unusual and stylish pair of carved walnut chairs. The wonderful extended top with 3 finials, Gothic revival carving in the centre and 2 pointed pieces of amboyna which are laid on the walnut. Beneath the top section is a rectangular upholstered panel with scratch carving and amboyna panels on either side and a presentation plaque below. The chairs are supported by 2 turned uprights with 2 short returns which forms the side of the chair. There is a stuffover seat and at the front is a shaped apron with carved panels. The chairs have turned tapering legs at the front with brass ring and porcelain castors. The back legs are outswept.
