C19th Regency period mahogany 'bergere' library armchair. Elegant neo-classical 'Grecian' influenced library chair with cane-work bergere back and seat in perfect order. Based on a classical ancient Greek design 'Klismos' chair, popularised by the drawings of the artefacts and architecture of the ancient classical civilisations by the likes of Charles Heathcote-Tatham and the designs of Thomas Hope and Thomas King. A wonderful quality mahogany frame with swept open arms and carved motif detail and reeded channel carving, standing on turned legs. Rich colour timber with original polish and patina.
