Provincial Ladderback Armchair C.1840.

Description

Delightful 19th.c. painted ash armchair of interesting design c.1840. Tall back with turned finials and shaped ‘ladder’ backrest, rope seat and shaped arms. The unusual way the inclined arm supports go through the seat and locate to an extra cross stretcher is a vernacular detail copied by the great Arts & Crafts makers Morris & Co. for their celebrated Sussex Chair. Very good condition with original paintwork and rope seat.

Dimensions: width 22", depth 16", height 40".
