19th Century Set of 5 Solid Oak Carved Chairs with Grape and Leaf Carvings, and Interesting Provenance.

Description

19th century set of 5 solid oak hand carved high backed chairs. Note the wonderful quality-the handcarved twisted sides twist towards each other, and the time consuming grape and leaf carvings.

The set comprises 3 chairs with full wood seats and back, and 2 having cane inserts to back and to seat, but otherwise they are the same height, back angle, very similar carving etc. One of each is shown in first photo.

These chairs have an interesting provenance. They were owned by Audrey Curling of Chiswick, award winning author of romantic novels and historical fiction, who lived 1909-2007. She did her writing at the carved oak library table on this site, and these chairs were grouped around the table. Newspaper article, biography and photo included.

A lovely, and very sturdy set of chairs.

Size 42.5 inches high by 18.5 inches wide by 16 inches deep (inside seat)

All have been professionally tightened and restored, and are in very good condition.

Declaration

Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
