Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The pediment consists of a beautiful decorative carved shell which sits on a moulded frame. The mirror tilts using the original “Cope & Austin” brass fittings and is supported by delightful, barley twist uprights which are beautifully decorated with carved leaf finials. The antique mirror stands on four splayed legs with brown porcelain castors and is very unusual, most probably a bespoke piece, the quality of craftsmanship speaks for itself. It is a light walnut with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
