Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
They have elegant moulded balloon backs with scrolled, intricately carved, back supports. They stand on splayed back legs and cabriole front legs and have been recently upholstered in a jacquard fabric with braid trim. There are some minor old repairs to the chairs but these are minimal and the chairs are still very sturdy, good for everyday use and in extremely good condition. The walnut is a rich medium warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
