Here is an example of a very good quality set of 10 antique Victorian mahogany bolt-back balloon back dining chairs, circa 1860 - 1880. This set of chairs retains the original polish, which is why the chairs have a fantastic depth of colour. They boast a lovely mellow golden brown mahogany colour; it is impossible to re-create this colour if the chairs have been re-polished. The drops in seats have been re-upholstered with a top quality draylon material in a neutral fawn colour and offer a firm seat. The bolt back chairs feature an attractive “balloon” shaped back, ring turned front legs and sabre rear legs. The backs of the legs are shaped which is a sign of good quality. The chairs are firm and would look good anywhere in either a formal room or for in a room for everyday use.
Condition Report:
This set of chairs is in very good condition. This set of chairs retains the original polish, which is why the chairs boast such a lovely mellow golden brown mahogany colour. Consequently, there are nominal old use marks / scratches to the leading edges of the chairs and minor colour variation to the polish. The drop-in seats have been re-upholstered in a top quality neutral fawn draylon material. All material is therefore clean, free from wear and marks. The seat frames and chair joints are also solid. There are no breaks to the backs or legs of any of the chairs. All chairs are solid in joint, free of woodworm and ready to be used.
