M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Though from the late C19th , these chairs have achieved a wonderful 1750's period-style patina and colour through use and regular waxing. The depth of this 'skin'/ patina of age and wear is impossible to replicate or overstate its quality. A rare and powerful set of 8 dining chairs of outstanding style and in exceptional condition. Probably produced in Dublin by a firm of leading cabinet-makers ,such as James Hicks ,Robert Strahan & Co. ,or Michael Butler Ltd.,who specialised in such revivalist period furniture.
