Pair Of French Bergere Armchairs

A pair of French Armchairs or Fauteuils in the style of the Louis XVI period but dating from the late Nineteenth Century or the Early Twentieth Century. The chairs are very unusual and stylish, in that they are ebonised with silver gilt highlighting, which is something I have not seen before. The chairs have elegently outswept back legs and the front legs are turned and fluted. The chairs are carved with floral bosses and a coiled running ribbon around the edge all of which are silver gilt. The scrolling arms of the chairs are carved with acanthus leaves, and join a medallion back. The backs of the chairs are readed and joined by carved silver gilt ribbons tied around the reading. The chairs are caned in the bottom and back, which sadly I have had to replace, but which means the chairs are very usuable.
