A wonderful, untouched Arts and Crafts period overmantle mirror. The mirror is of a simple geometric form with a plinth base. The mirror has an ebonised reeded slip and base detail. The mirror is gilded and has then been painted in black and grey and red with a foliate trailing border. The mirror is completely untouched, in country house condition with a wonderful look and patina. This is a highly unusual mirror to combine gilding and painting in this effect. The mirror plate is the original and as such has faded and degraded in areas, and as such should only be considered by someone who appreciates that look of age. C.1880.
