Mid 19thc Yew Wood High Splat Back Windsor Armchair

A mid 19thc yew wood high splat back Windsor armchair of very good patina (colour) originating from Yorkshire.

The chair has a fir tree central fretted splat with four spindles either side.

The arm bow has three under-arm spindles connecting the arms to the seat & four spindles either side of the back splat. The under-arm turnings are a design specific to this region.

Underneath the arm bow there are notches at the end of the arms.

There are four turned legs with a ball foot, connected by a crinoline stretcher.

Although this chair has no makers stamp it has many similarities to that pictured in 'The English Regional Chair' by Bernard A Cotton, page 204 Figure NE396.
