A massive and hugely decorative carved oak mirror in a seventeenth century manner, but dating to the Victorian period. The mirror is likely to have been for a huge fireplace as an overmantel, and indeed came from a big house outside Leeds, but today would work as a floor standing mirror. The mirror is solid oak throughout and has a main moulded edge of of carved ribbon twists and a large carved running motif of bound laurel leaves. The mirror is the surmounted with light detailed carvings of scrolls covered with grapes and vines, with roses and even a pineapple, the carvings are mirrored at the sides and base where they drape over scroll corbels. The whole is a tour de force of the carvers art in excellent condition and left a dry oak finish. C1860.
