18thc George III Open Armchair

A fine quality mid 18thc mahogany George III open armchair with a drop-in seat.

The carved serpentine shaped top rail leads down to a vase-shaped back splat.

This pierced back splat is finely carved with scrolling acanthus with a central urn & drapery.

The curved shaped arms have finely carved rocaille (shell like) decoration & have carved downward sweeping supports.

It has a drop-in seat, recovered in a heavy lemon coloured damask.

The chair has square front legs & sweeping legs to the back, supported by an H stretcher.
