A superb set of six highly unusual Victorian dining or salon chairs. The chairs are ebonised with applied bronze mounts and each has a hand painted porcelain plaque in the top rail. The chairs stand on finely turned front legs with an elaborately shaped profile around the seat, the legs have applied bronze rose shaped roundels where they join the seat and there is also one in the centre of the seat front rail surrounded by carving. The chair back is carved and shaped into a lyre shape with more applied bronze stylised rose roundels and with a large central bronze applique. The top rail has in the centre mounted within a bronze frame a handpainted porcelain plaque depicting a side profile picture of a classical maiden, this is an individual and subtly different maiden for each chair.
