Antique Regency Dining Chairs

19th century
Description

A fabulous set of 4 dining chairs from the Regency period, in simulated rosewood. During the war with Napoleon British ships were having difficulty sailing to the East Indies so supplies of exotic timbers were hard to get. As rosewood was highly fashionable this caused a problem for furniture makers .They overcame this by making furniture with native woods and then painting the finished item to replicate the hard to find rosewood,as is the case with this set of chairs. They are also finely inlaid with brass, the condition of these chairs is excellent.
